Ghana Government Receives GH¢391m Dividend from Perseus Mining

By Heavens Ashong

The Government of Ghana has received GH¢391 million (US$35 million) in dividends from Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, arising from its 10% free-carried interest in the company’s mining operations.

The dividend cheque was presented at the Ministry of Finance in Accra on Tuesday, 1 September 2026, at an event attended by representatives of the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF).

The payment forms part of the government’s returns from Ghana’s natural resources and comes as Perseus Mining continues to contribute to the national economy through mineral royalties, corporate taxes and other statutory payments.

Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, thanked Perseus Mining for the payment and urged other mining companies operating in Ghana to meet their statutory obligations and contribute to national development.

He said the government sought to ensure that Ghana derived greater value from its mineral resources while maintaining a stable and predictable fiscal environment to encourage continued investment in the mining sector.

The Board Chairman of Perseus Mining Ghana Limited, Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, King of the Assin Owirenkyi Traditional Area (centered in Assin Kushea) in the Central Region said a stable and predictable business environment would be critical to attracting further investment in exploration, mine development and expansion.

He said that, as of 30 June 2026, Perseus Mining had paid GH¢1.7 billion in mineral royalties, GH¢4.2 billion in corporate income taxes and about GH¢1.9 billion in PAYE and other statutory taxes.

The company also invests in its host communities through programmes supporting education, healthcare, infrastructure, skills development and local enterprise.

Perseus Mining said increased investment could lead to higher production, increased tax and royalty revenues, additional dividends to the government and more employment opportunities.

The company expressed appreciation to the government, regulators, traditional authorities and host communities for their continued cooperation and support.
