The Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF or the Fund) today held discussions with Zijin Mining Group on opportunities to deepen collaboration and investment in Ghana’s mining sector.
The meeting, at the MIIF Head Office in Accra, focused on investment, technology, value-chain development, sustainability and capacity building.
The delegation from Zijin Mining was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Lizhong Zhang, and received by MIIF’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Justina Nelson.
The engagement forms part of the Fund’s efforts to build strategic partnerships that support responsible investment and increase the value generated from Ghana’s mineral resources.
The two sides identified potential areas for further cooperation, including co-investment in mining assets, acquisition and development of new assets, structured financing, technology and capacity building, research, environmental and biodiversity initiatives, and community development.
Mrs Nelson said stronger collaboration between MIIF and Zijin Mining could help maximise the value Ghana derives from its mineral resources.
Mr. Zhang outlined the contribution of its operations in Ghana through taxes, royalties, local procurement, employment and community investments. The company also highlighted the use of technology and improved cost optimization to increase productivity and extend the life of its mining operations.
Zijin Mining also expressed interest in expanding its investment in Ghana and exploring further opportunities across Africa.
